Microsoft Flight Simulator Takes Off as the Biggest Launch for Game Pass PC

Virtual pilots have taken Microsoft Flight Simulator to new heights as it is the biggest launch for Game Pass on PC. Along with that news, the game has over a million players across Xbox and PC. The achievement makes the eleventh entry of the franchise one of the most successful.

The team at Xbox is consistently getting closer to the deep end of the PC pool due to Game Pass. Now the service has a new achievement that was announced from Jorg Neumann, the head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, as it is the biggest launch for Game Pass on PC.

“Just over two weeks ago, Microsoft Flight Simulator launched. Thanks to the incredible support of our community of fans, pilots, flight enthusiasts and virtual travelers, we have had more than one million unique players take to the skies,” writes Neumann. “Additionally, Microsoft Flight Simulator was the biggest game launch in Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta) history.”

Neumann also delves into some statistics on what players have done so far in the simulator. Virtual pilots have logged 26 million flights with over a billion miles. Flying a billion miles is like flying around the world 40,000 times. 

The 2020 release is the eleventh installment in the 38 years of players hopping on their PCs to fly around the world. The previous entry was Flight Simulator X in 2006, with a Steam version that came in 2014.

Looking away from Game Pass numbers, Microsoft Flight Simulator still has a strong position on Steam according to Steam Charts as of writing. The current all-time peak of concurrent players over 61,000 pilots. The average for August was approximately 20,000 players.

Players can expect updates and theme-related DLC in the future as Asobo Studios continues to support its latest release.
