Nintendo has dropped Metroid Dread Report Vol. 7: Secrets of the Chozo. Before their collapse, the Chozo were an intelligent race that was quite technologically advanced. Prior to their collapse, the bird-like beings strived to ensure peace across the galaxy. However, the few surviving Chozo tend to be elusive.
Metroid Dread is the latest chapter in the saga of galactic bounty hunter, Samus Aran. After losing her parents at a young age, the Chozo took her in. She was then raised on planet Zebes, where her first battle with the Space Pirates would later unfold. She is more resilient to hazardous environments, thanks to a Chozo DNA transplant they gave her. Furthermore, her Power Suit and Arm Cannon are both advanced Chozo technology.
Mysterious Chozo Lore
If you’ve been a Metroid fan for a while, you know there’s more to the story. Metroid Dread Report: Chozo Secrets covers a bit of that backstory. Samus has found Chozo artifacts during her previous missions in places like the planets Zebes and SR388. In Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS), she discovered Chozo Memories. Metroid Dread Report Vol. 7 points out (as have many fans), that a figure in the memories looks suspiciously like the Chozo Warrior in recent trailers.
The memories depict the Chozo arriving on planet SR388 to do research. After having their first run-in with the X parasites, the Chozo had a formidable new threat on their hands. As a result, they created a new species, the iconic metroids, to exterminate the parasites. Of course, as the trailers have hinted, they may yet survive on planet ZDR.
Hostile Chozo?
The latest Metroid Dread trailer shows the hostile Chozo Warrior first revealed in the last teaser. This enigmatic new threat towers over Samus. The new report states that it even towers over other Chozo warriors, too. While heavily armored, this foe also wields a powerful Arm Cannon, just like Samus herself. Meanwhile, the smaller Chozo Soldiers brandish a long spear-like weapon, allowing them to attack at range.
Samus will also face Chozo robots. Naturally, these combat bots are also constructed from advanced Chozo technology. They are very agile in combat and fight with electromagnetic blades and Arm Cannons. As with the Chozo Soldiers, this combination of agility and ranged attacks makes them dangerous.
Following Metroid Dread Report: Chozo Secrets, the next one will detail planet ZDR. It appears this planet is home to some very formidable new threats to Samus’ life. Regardless, this upcoming report may or may not be the last one before Metroid Dread launches on October 8th.
