Marvel’s Avengers Is Reworking Its XP and Cosmetic Systems

Marvel's Avengers will be receiving new changes to its XP and cosmetic systems, alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades on March 18. The reworks have been put in place by Crystal Dynamics' 'balance team', six months after the game's initial launch. The plan is to provide a more balanced overall experience for the game, which has struggled to maintain a consistent player base.

Courtesy of the Marvel’s Avengers official website, the development team has posted an update regarding XP and cosmetic progression within the game.

Players gain XP by simply defeating enemies and completing objectives. Each of the game’s seven heroes start off at level 1 and individually progress up towards 50. However, Crystal Dynamics believe it is currently far too quick for players to reach this cap.

This has led to pacing issues, such as skill points currently being rewarded too fast, which may be confusing and overwhelming to newer players. We want each decision to invest in a skill or Heroic to be more meaningful.

Therefore, the amount of XP necessary to achieve each level after 25 is increasing. It will incrementally rise with each level until hitting the cap of 50. This means that from March 18, it will take significantly longer to progress with each hero.

Avengers will also be seeing changes in the customisation department, as it’s removing the “randomness” from obtaining new cosmetics. The developer states it wishes to provide more “player agency” when it comes to these types of items. This particular reworking is still under development, although the March 18 update will introduce its first step towards the transition. Random drops will disable temporarily, although the cosmetics vendor will still be active whilst the plan takes shape.

More information regarding the cosmetic reworking will arrive later in the year. On top of this, will be news on “replaying the Reassemble Campaign” and updates to the Harm Room.

Marvel’s Avengers is also receiving a free PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade on March 18. Alongside this, will be the second chapter of season 1 – ‘Future Imperfect’ – starring Clint Barton as Hawkeye.

The game is currently available on PS4, Xbox One and Steam
