LeBron James Is MultiVersus’ Newest Character

Warner Bros.' MultiVersus is well underway with its Early Access period, which allowed players to access the Open Beta a week early and try out the new crossplay-enabled Smash Bros.-like fighting game. Today, during San Diego Comic Con 2022, the game's newest character, LeBron James, was announced with a new trailer.

LeBron James is MultiVersus' Newest Character

Previously on MultiVersus‘ developments, the game was set to enter its Open Beta this week. As of the time of writing, we’re three days into the early access period. Players have been able to get online and try the game themselves with full crossplay support (thanks to WB’s servers) and can take control of one of 16 characters. That said, there’s a new character coming to MultiVersus this Tuesday, and it’s LeBron James, as he appears in the movie Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2022, LeBron comes with his own release trailer showcasing some gameplay, which you can watch below.

In the trailer, a lot of his gameplay revolves around the basketball he carries, which doubles as both a projectile and an item that he or a teammate can pick up. LeBron is also a Bruiser-class character, similar to Shaggy, Garnet, Batman, and Jake. LeBron isn’t the only character that’s coming to MultiVersus in the future, as, thanks to a Twitter post from MultiVersus‘ official Twitter account, Rick and Morty will also be made playable characters in the upcoming Season 1 update, as you can see below.

You can probably expect to download an update on Tuesday, July 26th, which will add LeBron as a playable character. Something worth noting is that LeBron’s release coincides with the Early Access period ending for MultiVersus. Patch notes otherwise haven’t been disclosed, so it isn’t clear whether the update includes bug fixes or balance changes, or if it’s just LeBron. As for Rick and Morty’s inclusion, Season 1’s release date wasn’t made clear, but we’ll continue to update as that story develops.

MultiVersus is currently in Early Access on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It will become available to download for everyone else on July 26th, 2022.
