In a recent announcement on Twitter, Warner Bros. Games has confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy – the next big AAA release set in the world of Harry Potter – is being delayed on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. That being said, PS4 and Xbox One owners can now be expected to wait until April 4, 2023 for launch, while Switch owners will have to wait until July 25, 2023. That’s a delay of two and five months respectively.
Magically-inclined current-gen owners (that’s PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC) need not fear, however, as (despite plenty of delays in the past) the higher-end versions of Hogwarts Legacy are still on track for a February 10, 2023 release.
As stated in their Twitter post, developers Warner Bros. Games “is looking forward to bringing you the game and we want to bring you the best possible game experience across all platforms”.
Hogwarts Legacy will launch on April 4, 2023 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and on July 25, 2023 for Nintendo Switch. The team is looking forward to bringing you the game and we want to deliver the best possible game experience across all platforms.

Leaving Last-Gen Behind
It seems working cross-generation is taking its toll on larger games now that more players have access to the current-gen consoles and developers have spent more time with them. It won’t be long before the last generation is left behind completely. Horizon Forbidden West developers Guerrilla Games have already announced that their latest game’s DLC (Burning Shores) will be released exclusively on PlayStation 5. And Warner Bros. themselves have already had to cancel last-gen versions of Gotham Knights due to poor performance and the inability to get the game running as desired.
For fans of Harry Potter, this delay is far better than an outright cancellation, especially for those who have been waiting since Hogwarts Legacy’s first announcement. And is far better than the developers releasing broken versions of the game, al la Cyberpunk 2077. But it is certainly a sign of the times.
Those who have pre-ordered Hogwarts Legacy Digital Deluxe version will be granted access to a 72-hour early access period just before the game launches. But due this recent delay, this early access will only apply to those who pre-ordered it on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC.
In other news, a new Hogwarts Legacy showcase is scheduled for later today, December 14.
