Kingdom Hearts III has become the fastest selling title in the games franchise after publisher SquareEnix announced it shipped Five million copies in the first week (As of Monday 4th Feb).
This figure took into account both physical and digital sales of the game.
Kingdom Hearts III is an action RPG that mixes Disney and Disney Pixar into Square Enix storytelling and settings. The first game released back in 2002 on the PlayStation 2 and saw both critical and commercial success. The series celebrated it's 15th anniversary back in 2017 and collectively it's sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.
Kingdom Hearts III concludes the franchise's main story as you follow Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy through quests to protect the universes from the evil force known as the heartless. Kingdom Hearts III adds new Disney worlds such as Frozen, Big Hero 6 and The Pirate of the Caribbean. The game also features a star-filled voice cast such as Idina Menzel as Elsa, Kristen Bell, and Anna, Zachary Levi as "Tangled's" Flynn Ryder. And John Ratzenburger and Wallace Shawn as Toy Story's Hamm and Rex.
Kingdom Hearts III success is good news for publisher Square Enix which just reported a 4.8% decrease in net sales year-on-year during the nine-month period ending Dec 31st.
Operating income was also down 65.3% year-on-year due to greater development costs for new major titles and advertising expenses.
