Jon Schafer leaves Paradox Interactive on mutual grounds

Paradox Interactive’s respected developer Jon Shafer has left the company after just six months of working there.

The announcement was made over on Paradox’s own site where they say his decision to leave came down to wanting ”different things creatively,” according to Mattias Lilja, Paradox’s Executive Vice President.

Jon Shafer is best known for his work on Sid Meier's Civilization V in which he received a BAFTA Games Award for Strategy back in 2011. The honour was won ahead of competitors including Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty and FIFA Manager 11.

Shafer, on his personal Kickstarter page, spoke about the matter and what we can expect from him in the future.

“I'll be focusing on At The Gates again,” Shafer commented, referring to his 4X indie strategy game that was crowdfunded for $106,283 back in March 2013. He goes on to talk about how the project became “truly overwhelming at a certain point,” and that he decided to use his time at a Paradox as a “source of inspiration.”

He closes off the post by thanking his backers and promising good things to come from At The Gates. I look forward to seeing how ATG comes along and it’s always nice to see staff leave on good terms with their employers.
