Just this week, we saw the release of the hotly anticipated Rage 2. The sequel to the under-appreciated FPS comes almost eight years after the original was released. While id Software, the legendary studio behind the Doom series, is currently working on the sequel to the 2016 Doom revival, they still did have a hand in RAGE 2, with the lion share of development going to Avalanche Studios (the team behind the Just Cause series). RAGE 2 hasn’t been getting the best reception, with the game receiving 73 and 68 on Metacritic for the PC and PS4 versions, with critics praising the game’s combat mechanics, but criticizing the open-world design and storyline.
Despite the lukewarm reviews, id Software already wants a sequel to the game. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, id Software studio director Tim Willits expressed that the team had interest in a proposed RAGE 3.
“We’ve always loved this franchise because it’s such a fun setting,” Willits says. “We can do what we want. We were once talking about riding on giant cockroaches. What other game can you have a conversation where that’s a legitimate conversation you can have?! It’s a crazy, fun, exciting franchise and I hope we can make a third one as soon as possible.”
Here’s hoping that RAGE 2 will be able to sell enough copies to justify a new installment in this series. What did you think of RAGE 2? Leave a comment below on how you feel about RAGE 2 and what could happen for RAGE 3. We’ll have a review up sometime in the future.
