Unlike many games which attempt to get your heartbeat racing, Haven is a game designed to calm you. As the creative director of The Game Bakers has stated in a previous PlayStation Blog post, Haven is a game that is meant to be relaxing and is supposed to feel like “holding hands on a nice outdoor walk”. Consequently, many aspects of the game are geared towards creating a sense of lightness. For example, Haven has a very limited HUD and UI, giving the game a less cluttered feeling.
In addition to announcing the PS5 release date for Haven, The Game Bakers also revealed more information about the game. Haven can be played solo or in co-op. Transitioning from one mode to the other is seamless and can be done with the press of a button at any point in the game. When Haven is played solo, “the game pad is split in half” whereas in co-op mode “players have to combine their actions” and work together to overcome obstacles. For instance, in combat players can “synchronize two similar actions on each character to make powerful duo attacks”. When exploring and searching for resources, the “lead character chooses where to go and the following character helps clean the area”.
Haven will also be available on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One soon. Fortunately, PlayStation is not the only next-gen platform Haven will be available on and, according to The Game Bakers official site, the game will be coming to Xbox Series X/S too. As the trailer below reveals, Haven will be a laid-back game with a relaxing soundtrack and colorful visuals.
