Nearly 2 years have passed after gameplay of a Harry Potter RPG leaked over YouTube. Finally, in June 2020, according to a Bloomberg report, the multi-million dollar franchise is getting a game in late 2021, developed by Avalanche Software. The only problem is that some developers working on the wizarding RPG aren’t happy with the author’s recent misconducts.
J.K. Rowling has recently been trending throughout the news because of her transphobic comments. Harry Potter fans and members of the LGBTQ+ community aren’t pleased, and rightfully so. Even the team working on this game have anxiety surrounding their workplace. Jason Schreier reported this himself just this morning,
The situation made some members of the team uncomfortable and sparked private discussions among staff over the pandemic water cooler, the workplace communication app Slack.
Despite Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s unwillingness to comment, as they own the Harry Potter franchise and Avalanche Software, it’s still on track to release sometime late next year. Due to the cancellation from COVID-19, the team had to scrap their plans to reveal the game at E3.
New details on WB’s ‘HARRY POTTER’ game:
– Players can play as wizards & explore a open-world of Hogwarts & its surrounding areas
– J.K. Rowling has very little direct involvement.
– In the works at Avalanche Software for a late 2021 release

After the developers explained more about the game itself, it seems as though this long-lost title is true to the leak. This RPG will let us role-play as wizards in a vast, open-world, and a recreation of the wizarding school Hogwarts. If this excites you, you’ll be able to play it on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
You may be pleased to know Rowling has little involvement with the title if you are a fellow Harry Potter fan and are disappointed in her recent controversies. Now all we can do is wait for a real trailer to be revealed.
