God of War Is Getting A Comic Book Series

God of War gets its own comicbook series

A God of War comic book series is coming to a store near you.

If you’re like me, you dislike plot holes. One particularly annoying one is the decade’s long gap between the climatic end of God of War 3, and the beginning of 2018’s soft reboot. Just what did Kratos do between leaving the Greek world and finding a home in Norse one? These probing questions won’t remain unanswered for long, because Dark Horse Comics has teamed up with the IP to create a God of War comic book series. Based around the intervening years, God of War: Fallen God follows Kratos right after defeating Zeus, as the ghost of Sparta struggles to come to terms with his past. The first issue launches on June 24th, though we don’t know how many issues the series will run.

God of War: Fallen God follows Kratos after conquering Zeus and thwarting Athena. Believing himself to be finally free of his bondage, he sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind. Kratos rages against the one foe that has proven to be unconquerable—himself. But a war against oneself is unwinnable, and only invites madness. – Official Blurb

A Return Of A Much Angrier Kratos

Kratos' third outing saw him take the fight to the Greek gods, with bloody consequences.

Kratos’ third outing saw him take the fight to the Greek gods, with bloody consequences.

In the original trilogy, you’ll remember that Kratos wasn’t the brooding father of the 2018 return of the franchise. This comic series will reintroduce a far angrier demi-god that could be difficult to root for as a protagonist. In the official blurb, it mentions Kratos travelling to a desert, which has me intrigued. Fans have voiced their collective hope of seeing the God of War interact with Egyptian mythology, so this will hopefully sate that hunger.

If you haven’t played God of War, then you’re missing out on arguably the best PS4 game ever made. Our review called it a game to play before you die. A combination of exquisite storytelling, excellent gameplay, this is an experience not to be missed. A sequel is highly anticipated, but this comic will keep fans satisfied until we get an official confirmation of what Sony Santa Monica is working on.
