Ghost Recon Sequel In Development At Ubisoft

A sequel to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is in development at Ubisoft. Although no official title or release date has yet been given, Ubisoft sources have confirmed the news following a Tweet put out by the company thanking gamers for their support of Breakpoint.

Ghost Recon Sequel In Development At Ubisoft

According to certain sources from Ubisoft and a telling tweet from the company thanking their fans for supporting the previous entry in the series, it seems as though development has begun on the next Ghost Recon sequel.

Sources from Ubisoft originally spoke to Kotaku, telling the site that they are working on something called; “codename OVER,” which will eventually become the next Ghost Recon sequel. Although no official announcement has been made at the time of writing, the sources also revealed that the new game could release sometime in the 2023 fiscal year. In other words, we could see it drop at some point next year.

In addition to the comments made by these company insiders, a Tweet recently put out by Ubisoft also hinted at a sense of finality in terms of the previous entry in the series, following the final piece of free campaign-based DLC content put out last year called; Operation Motherland.

Operation Motherland brought with it a new conquest mode that revolved around the liberation of Aurora and breathed new life into Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. It split the island into a number of different territories, akin to how the map was broken up in Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Players had to conquer each section by taking out the lieutenant for that territory.

The Tweet from Ubisoft thanking players for their support can be seen below:

It should be noted that, “codename OVER,” is entirely separate from the spin-off battle royale game; Ghost Recon Frontline. Frontline has become somewhat of a dirty word in the online gaming community, after the free-to-play battle royale was delayed just a week after it was first revealed in October of last year.

In the months since that disastrous reveal week, development on Frontline has hit a huge speed bump after it was decided that the game would undergo a full development reset. This obviously means that we should not expect to see a launch date announced anytime soon.

Additionally, this is not the first time that we have heard of something with the codename; “OVER.” When the list of games in development emerged from the Nvidia GeForce Now leak last year, one of the titles on that list was: “Project OVER.” This means that the next Ghost Recon sequel has likely been in development for a while, at least since last year.
