While the past week was quite eventful, the nostalgia-inducing GTA Trilogy remaster stole most of the spotlight. Luckily, we managed to look past that into some stuff like Halo Infinite’s campaign, Overwatch names changes, Blizzcon 2022 being canceled, and more.
Rockstar reveals details on the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy
Rockstar Games has decided to grace us with the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition trailer along with new details and screenshots. After much speculation, we finally know the extent of improvements coming to some of our favorite games of old.
The biggest change is the implementation of new controls and targeting akin to Grand Theft Auto V. The developers also added lighting and environmental enhancements like high-resolution textures and increased draw distance. They say there is also “much more” beyond these improvements. Make sure to check out how it all looks in our original news coverage.
The favorite hero cowboy of Overwatch received a name change
After the recent announcement that iconic Overwatch cowboy Jesse McCree would see a name change following the revelations regarding an employee at Blizzard with the same name, the Overwatch Team have finally revealed what he is truly called. The team revealed his name via Twitter amidst major lore reveal that his prior name was merely an alias. His real name is none other than “Cole Cassidy”.
This beloved character has been known in-game as “McCree” since before day one, so it may be a little shocking and confusing to long-time players. Hopefully, the transition in-game will feel quite smooth and natural, especially since there have been hints throughout Overwatch that his real name was not the one he went by. BlizzCon 2022 canceled amid scandals and controversies
It seems like we won’t get that “Do you guys not have phones?” moment next year since BlizzCon 2022 has been canceled. No, it’s not due to COVID but rather because Blizzard is currently going through a bit of a rough patch. Of course, this is due to the highly publicized case of employee discrimination and harassment.
They are all hands on deck with Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 and want their products to do the talking for them. There will be no live or other presentation of these games for the foreseeable future. BlizzCon, if it re-emerges will probably be re-imagined to make it better than previous ones. They say that they are committed to making everyone attending their events feel welcome, safe and included. We’ll see how that ultimately pans out.
Fifa 2022 selling like hotcakes despite rumors of a name change
Some things never change and one of them is the extreme success of every FIFA game. According to the data collected by Ukie, FIFA 22 is the best-selling boxed game in the UK for a fourth consecutive week. While that may not be a surprise, a possible name change for the franchise might be.
EA has, for some time, been considering changing the iconic name of the series due to how expensive the licensing deal with the Fifa organization has been. According to some information, the licensing expenses that include all the teams and players have steadily been increasing every year, reaching an eye-watering sum. If there was ever an ideal time for a name change, this would be it since Konami also did the same with their Pro Evolution Soccer, turning it into eFootball.
Halo Infinite Campaign trailer receives praise from fans
Master Chief is soon making a big comeback and Xbox wants you to know it. They showcased a 6-minute gameplay trailer that finally gave us a look at the Halo Infinite campaign. After seeing the footage, many have taken to calling it Far Cry: Halo Edition since the game seems to loosely follow a structure similar to Ubisoft’s open-world franchise.
You can freely roam the big open-world and approach enemies and their bases how you see fit. The trailer also showcased how the skill and weapon upgrade system works and many are pleased with what they’ve seen. The footage is also graphically a far cry from the game’s previous showcase that resulted in the game being delayed. You can check it out for yourself here.
