The past week was an eventful one, to say the least. While the title would have you believe it was all about Nintendo – don’t worry, some equally juicy news came to our attention as well. From GTA Trilogy collection leaking to Last of Us announcements all the way to Pokemon showcases, there’s a lot to unpack so let’s get into it.
Pokemon Gen 4 Remakes get a new, exciting trailer
The hype is real for the Pokemon Gen 4 Remakes that many look back upon with special fondness. To help with the wait, a new trailer has come out and it showcases Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in their full remade glory. First of all, it gives us a glimpse at some of the prominent characters we will be interacting with and they are as colorful as in any Pokemon game.
Besides that, the trailer gives an insight into the often controversial “hidden moves” or “HMs”. Luckily, this mechanic has somewhat been modernized so the players don’t have to structure their team around them. So you’ll be able to cut trees and climb rocks without your core Pokemon wasting precious move space for these techniques. These much-anticipated games will be released on November 19th this year. Underwhelming announcements of The Last of Us day
Were you perhaps expecting news about the elusive Last of Us multiplayer? Well, tough luck, as The Last of Us day didn’t give us any information on it. If you aren’t in the know, The Last of Us day is an annual event is where fans come together to celebrate the series of critically acclaimed videogames and their impact. This also gives Naughty Dog a chance to make some announcements regarding the franchise.
Unfortunately, what they showed wasn’t all that exciting. Essentially, it was all about the merch like the special vinyl collectible of songs from the game, a Joel statue, and some apparel inspired by the game. You can check all of that as well as the new photo mode competition in our original news coverage.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land had an amazing reveal trailer
The lovable pink inhaler of everything and everyone is back – and he looks better than ever! Yes, a new Kirby game, Kirby and the Forgotten Land has been announced by Nintendo. The trailer gives a look at the mysterious new world the game takes place in. While the setting is post-apocalyptic – don’t worry as it received a heavy Nintendo treatment and honestly, it’s probably the most vibrant and light-hearted post-apocalypse ever committed to a game.
Some of Kirby’s familiar copy abilities are also back in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. He can gain these by inhaling pesky enemies to copy their abilities. These include some of his iconic ones like Sword and Ice. Meanwhile, there are almost certainly some new ones to discover as well. GTA Trilogy Collection is coming to Switch and PC
This rumor has been getting around for quite some time. Originally from Kotaku, it suggested that Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas are getting remasters. And now, this has somewhat been confirmed by South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee which has officially rated something called Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
The initial rumors suggested that the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy would launch in 2022 for PC and consoles like the Switch. An investor presentation by Take-Two Interactive on August 9th confirmed that they are working on three “iterations of previously released titles”. The fact that Take-Two issued takedowns for any fan-made remasters of older games gives more fuel to the fire of this being the real deal. Until these get officially announced, check everything we know in our original news coverage.
Nintendo is expanding its online subscription service
The latest Nintendo Direct revealed the rumored Nintendo Switch Online expansion. However, the big surprise was that they’re adding not one, but two retro platforms to the service. While many were hoping for a Nintendo 64 and GameBoy Color combo, the announcement instead gave gamers something even better – a Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis combo! So expect N64 titles like F-Zero X, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask as well as Genesis titles like Castlevania: Bloodlines, Contra: Hard Corps, Shinobi, and more.
Unfortunately, there is a catch as all the above is a part of a new subscription plan. In short, Switch Online will cost you a bit more if you want to play games from the two soon-to-be-added retro platforms. It won’t be too expensive and as far as many gamers are concerned, it’s absolutely worth it. Check out the full list of upcoming games and more things Switch Online in our original news coverage.
