Development Details So far

Game Freak’s Kota Furushima gave a quote. His providing a quote suggests that he will be acting as the director for the game. Furushima has worked on battle planning and UI for Pokémon Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, Pokémon Sword and Shield, and Pokémon Legends Arceus. This will be Furushima’s first time acting as the director for a game. In 2019 Game Freak revealed an internal initiative, titled “Gear Project”. The initiative lets employees pitch and develop new IPs during the lulls between Pokémon development cycles. It is likely that Project Bloom is the result of the Gear Project initiative.

From the beginning, Private Division was the publisher we wanted to work with on our new game. Their track record and global expertise give us all the confidence to create a sweeping new action-adventure game that we can’t wait to share more about in the future.

— Kota Furushima, Director at Game Freak

Private Division has published popular titles such as Kerbal Space Program, Olli Olli World, and The Outer Worlds. Project Bloom will be Game Freak’s first new IP since 2019’s Little Town Heroes, and appears to be Game Freak’s most ambitious non-Pokémon title to date. Private Division will be the first western publisher to work with GAME FREAK. Currently, no platforms have been announced for Project Bloom. Private Division states to stay tuned to their social channels for future announcements.
