It’s been just over 2 years since we’ve seen a new Amnesia game, but Frictional Games have announced that a new one is finally here with The Bunker. The game brings a new approach to the series, with a semi-open world, crafting and at least one firearm. All these are new features to the franchise, which may be a great change to the formula, or undermine it. With it being such an acclaimed series, it’s no doubt going to be one of the most anticipated horrors of 2023 with its March release date.
Amnesia: The Bunker will come to PC, with a Steam page already up with more details on the game, as well as coming to Playstation and Xbox. Judging from the trailers posted on their respective channels, the horror series will be available on PS4 and Xbox One, as well as next gen. Whilst the core remains the recognisably same, Frictional Games are continuing to experiment with the series. The trailer shows them take it new directions, with new mechanics and design elements.
What We Know
You play as Henri Clément, a French soldier in a WW1 bunker. Unlike previous entries you are armed this time with a revolver, as shown in the trailer. You also have a dynamo flashlight, described as noisy. This is likely because the game also comes with a permanent monster in the environment hunting you. There is also a brief gif of a grenade being used. The Steam page also states that the game has a level of randomization that will make each play through unique.
There is also a crafting element added to the game. You will need to scavenge for rare supplies and craft items to help you survive. Amnesia: The Bunker is described as semi-open world, with numerous solutions to the problem, offering a non-linear approach. They also state that actions will have consequences. This seems to be in regard to both story and the world, as they will change how the world responds.
It’s an exciting announcement for horror fans, with the return of one of the best franchises for scares out there.
