Five Nights at Freddy’s Creator Launches Fazbear Fanverse Initiative

Earlier today Five Nights at Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon announced the launch of The Fazbear Fanverse Initiative. This initiative is set to support the development of new fan-produced games by some of the fandom’s most prolific creators; providing money and creative freedom to help them to continue the high-quality content that they are known for.

The initial line-up is set to include Five Nights at Candy’s 4The Joy of Creation: Ignited CollectionPopgoes EvergreenOne Night at Flumpty’s 3, and a remake of the original Five Nights at Freddy’s. All these games are to be provided for free on Gamejolt as well as bundled with classic versions, minigames, remakes and sold on consoles and mobile. Additionally, these new fan games may receive merchandise and collectables of their own.

Five Nights at Freddy’s was one of the biggest indie horror hits of the late 2010s with more sequels and spin-offs than an 80’s slasher villain; With games spanning PC, home console, mobile, and most recently seeing the franchise move into VR. As with any successful franchise, there is a wealth of fan content to help spread the love of those antagonistic animatronics; including but not limited to fan art, fan fiction, plenty of scream-filled Youtube videos, and of course fan games.

The Fazbear Fanverse Initiative is an ambitious project. Very few other developers would do what Cawthon is aspiring to do; providing both money and creative freedom to fan creators could result in some truly innovative titles. However, it could end up diluting the brand with well-intentioned but low-quality titles. Only time will tell how successful or not this new project will be.
