We’re going to dive into the games that were announced today, but be sure to check out the Direct Mini for yourself below and enjoy the sleek video footage of these great games. With dates ranging from “Available Now” to Summer 2021, there’s plenty to get excited for.
HYRULE WARRIORS: AGE OF CALAMITY DEMO
Available now, a free demo is available for the upcoming Breath of the Wild prequel, with demo progress carrying over to the full game upon release. It was also announced that the massive Divine Beasts will be playable, meaning that the immense battles the Warriors series is known for will now be even more impressive.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be released on November 20th, and the demo is available right now on the eShop.
CONTROL: ULTIMATE EDITION – CLOUD VERSION
The award-winning Control finally makes its way to the Switch, but not in the way anybody was expecting. Available today, players with an internet connection and a Nintendo Account can download and play a special demo of Control: Ultimate Edition, which grants them access to purchasing the full Action Pass.
Players can only stream the demo for ten minutes and must play for five before they are able to purchase access to the entire game. There are two options for play, optimized for graphics or optimized for performance, so there is some wiggle room when it comes to the connection requirements. I played the demo on my Switch Lite over WiFi and didn’t run into any issues, the game looked incredible.
BRAVELY DEFAULT II
After what feels like eons, players are within sight of BRAVELY DEFAULT II. Today a message from the development team at Square Enix was published that details changes made to the game in response to player feedback. After the demo release in March 2020, the team took comments from fans in regards to difficulty and controls.
BRAVELY DEFAULT II will be released on February 26, 2021, for Nintendo Switch, no matter how much I keep thinking it’s a new Crystal Chronicles title.
IMMORTALS FENYX RISING PREORDERS ARE NOW LIVE
Landing on December 3rd, players will be tasked with saving the Greek gods in a grand mythological adventure. Fight classic villians such as Cyclops or Medusa, traverse the massive world, and weild the weapons of the gods as you rush to save them from evil.
Immortals Fenyx Rising has received plenty of attention in recent weeks, even resulting in a Google Stadia-exclusive demo. Expectations remain high for Ubisoft’s next great undertaking.
STORY OF SEASONS: PIONEERS OF OLIVE TOWN
The true continuation of the Harvest Moon pedigree, fans will soon be able to explore a new land in the footsteps of their grandfather. With a new location settled within walking distance of a nearby port, players will once again work the land, join the community, and start a family.
STORY OF SEASONS: Pioneers of Olive Town will release to Nintendo Switch on March 23, 2021. Get your tools ready.
THE ENTIRE NO MORE HEROES FRANCHISE
Travis Touchdown finally returns as No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle are available today exclusively on the Nintendo eShop. The cult-classic Wii titles that brought a new meaning to the phrase “save your game” have brought back in advance of the upcoming No More Heroes III, which will be arriving in 2021.
Fight your way through assassins and enjoy (or suffer through) the raunchy humor as you reclaim the title of the United Assassins Association’s #1 ranked assassin, baby!
HITMAN 3 – CLOUD VERSION
Speaking of assassins, the conclusion of the World of Assassination Trilogy is finally coming to Nintendo Switch, but in a different way. Just like Control: Ultimate Edition, this version of the game will be delivered and played via cloud streaming, so don’t expect to play without a Nintendo Online account or a stable internet connection.
We don’t know when Hitman 3 – Cloud Version will be available, but chances are it won’t be the last time we see this type of game delivery on the Nintendo Switch.
AND THE REST…
There were a few more arguably smaller titles that were discussed today in the Direct Mini. Available today is Part Time UFO from HAL Laboratory, which was originally released for mobile phones. The move to Nintendo Switch adds two-player co-op. Surviving the Aftermath is a post-apocalyptic world-building title that puts players in a procedurally generated world. Manage a colony and traverse over six different biomes to gather resources and meet other survivors. Decisions make consequences, and colonists react to your choices.
Tropico 6 arrives on Switch on November 6, 2020. Play on large archipelagos, send agents on raids, and address the people in a way only a dictator can. Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia launches on November 3rd, and features a fully explorable 3D world, action-packed battles, a role-playing system, and online multiplayer. Finally, for folks who like deck-building and rogelites, Griftlands: Nintendo Switch Edition will arrive in summer 2021. Hand-illustrated sci-fi, hundreds of cards, and the power of negotiation will ensure lots of fun for players next year.
