Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is the long-awaited return of an all-time classic RPG for the modern era. Publisher and developer Square Enix has now showcased the game’s dramatically improved visuals by returning to a classic meme.

For years now, a popular Final Fantasy VIII meme has circulated the internet. In it, the protagonist Squall is called “the best looking guy here.” This is followed by another panel which zooms in on his distorted, pixelated face, showing that he is indeed not the best looking guy here, at least by modern standards.

Not exactly the best looking guy here.

Not exactly the best looking guy here.

Now, Square Enix has referenced the meme itself. On the official Final Fantasy twitter account, the company posted a brief video of the game. The footage shows the same part of the game that the original meme came from, but this time in glorious high definition. See the infamous moment redone in HD below.

First announced at E3 2019, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will feature revamped HD graphics along with a handful of gameplay changes. It will release later this year for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam; it is currently unclear whether it will launch physically or digitally.
