Following the success of their 2022 event, publishers Feardemic are back with Fearfest 2023. Feardemic’s CEO, Scott Millard, described last year’s event as a “surprise success”, with 7+ hours of streaming, 80 games and 35,000 viewers throughout the duration of the stream, which contained coverage of titles such as Choo Choo Charles, Saturnalia and the upcoming Layers of Fear remake, among many others. The horror focused publishers plan to bring more terror-filled action in the form of Fearfest 2023, partnered with IGN. Featuring two events in one weekend, Fearfest will include Blacksummer and the Horror Game Awards, which are set to take place on 6th and 7th September.
Fearfest: Blacksummer
The first night of Fearfest 2023 will be Blacksummer. While speaking with Feardemic’s Creative Event Manager Filip Buchalski, the company CEO explained how this years showcase will be shorter, roughly 3.5 hours as opposed to last years 7, with a focus on quality over quantity. Alongside promoting the upcoming horror games of 2023/24, Feardemic have promised to deliver spine-chilling premiere trailers, horrific interviews, and creepy special guests to join the celebration of horror.
Fearfest’s Blacksummer showcase takes place on September 6th, at 7pm BST (8pm CEST, 11am PDT) and can be viewed on either IGN’s Twitch or IGN’s YouTube.
Fearfest: Horror Game Awards
The second night of Fearfest will be the Horror Game Awards. Although the more intricate details are yet to be revealed, the awards will be presented by content creators and consist of 15 categories, the winners of which will win their very own Golden Bat (I am assuming award statue – no bats shall be harmed.) Only games released between July 2022 – July 2023 are valid for nomination. And the bloody-red cherry on top is the winners will have been voted for by the horror community, through a specific website revealed in July.
Wanting this to be a real world event, Fearfest’s Horror Game Awards will take place at Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków. Being built upon the grave of the former Church of Holy Ghost, the venue is sure to match the haunting atmosphere Feardemic are looking for. Fearfest’s Horror Game Awards take place on September 7th at 7pm BST (8pm CEST, 11am PST.) You are also able to join the live audience from home, again on IGN’s Twitch and IGN’s YouTube
