Meant to come out in May this year, Fast & Furious Crossroads was delayed alongside Fast & Furious 9 due to complications arising from the coronavirus pandemic. While moviegoers won’t get to see the next explosive chapter in the life of Dom and the gang until next April, gamers will get to play the latest video game adaptation in the franchise on PC (no pre-orders available on PC for now), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on August 7, 2020.
The new gameplay trailer for Fast & Furious Crossroads is polarising, to say the least, as shown by the less than favourable dislike ratio. While the action-racing and cheesy one-liners from film stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson seem to capture the same campy charm as the movies, the dated visuals make it hard to place it alongside other licensed games from this generation like Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Avalanche Studio’s Mad Max.
Still, maybe the act of going toe-to-toe with a tank or using a giant container as a wrecking ball is the kind of escapism we need right now. The game’s website promises an “epic new chapter in the Fast & Furious saga with high-speed heists, nonstop cinematic action, and adrenaline-fuelled stunts in exotic locations.” There will also be a three-way multiplayer mode, although the developers haven’t expanded much on it yet.
Whether you were impressed or let down by the trailer, Fast & Furious Crossroads will be zooming (or crashing) onto shelves August 7, 2020.
