In a surprising livestream today, Sony unveiled details on the specs of their upcoming PlayStation 5 console. Since there has been so little information about the PS5 despite its supposed late 2020 release, players can finally get some solid news. While there is still no clear price or release date, Sony fans can get excited about the features for this next gen console. Here is everything revealed in the livestream, as well as a video link down below.
A clear theme to gather from these specs is that the PS5 wants to give players the smoothest gaming experience possible. With an incredibly high speed SSD along with the custom I/O system, load times will be virtually eliminated. Even loading screens for large open-world games will be very minuscule. Sony believes that this will enable game developers to have more freedom when designing game environments. The GPU system in the PS5 will also benefit developers that wish to take their visuals a step further. Its custom GPU is designed to give even more defined ray tracing to heighten a game’s realism, as well as boasting a brand new 3D audio engine that will create an intensely immersive experience for players.
Lastly, the PS5 will have backwards compatibility with the PS4. Sony stated that they have confirmed using the top 100 PS4 games, the PS5 will have backwards compatibility on launch day. It is implied that more games will be added to this list, but Sony did not state how compatibility will work.
