First off, the Xbox Games Showcase pre-show. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the build-up towards the actual showcase was joined with a wide array of guests and world premieres. Joined by selections of panelists, including popular gaming personalities, Jack Septiceye, Laurenzside, Austin Evans, Danny O’ Dwyer and Arin Hansen, we got to hear about some of these leading figures in the Youtube Gaming community want to see from upcoming games like Halo. The highlight was Funhaus and Inside Gaming’s Alanah Pearce’s short and sweet statement, “more Chief, less Locke”.
Each and every one of the first-party exclusives shown will be on Xbox Game Pass from day one. So, including those from the pre-show, here are the looks into all of the games we were treated to:
Dragon Quest XI – Coming to Xbox and Xbox Gamepass
Introduced by Yuji Horii, game designed of Dragon Quest XI, we now know that the hit RPG, the Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition to be exact, is coming to Xbox One and Game Pass on the 4th of December 2020. Set in the world of Erdrea, you play as a hunted hero who must come together with a charismatic cast of companions to uncover the mystery of his fate and save the world.
A brand new free-to-play online competitive first-person shooter taking place on OMECHA, a planet of exotic environments. Exomecha promises an immersive experience with team-based large battles, a unique battle royale game mode and an objective-based game mode.
Watch Dogs: Legion: Resistance Trailer
This isn’t exactly anything new. We already know full well about Watch Dogs: Legion, but the Resistance trailer emphasises the story and gameplay you’re about to take part in. Recruiting and playing as anyone of a variety of skills, from hackers and hard grafters to idiots and ordinary people, you’re taking on a corrupt hierarchy made by Albion Security, with a plethora of skills and weapons at your disposal. It comes out on October 29 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
Geoff was quite excited about this one, as it’s by Cococucumber, based in his homeland of Canada. Echo Generation is a turn-based adventure game that gives off instant Stranger Things vibes, as you take on what seems to be varieties of evil robots. It looks cute, quirky and mature all at once. It comes out in 2021 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
Hello Neighbor 2
With an instantly recognizable graphic style, the popular stealth horror game, Hello Neighbor, is getting a sequel, Hello Neighbor 2. You’re once again sneaking into the neighbor’s house as a journalist, investigating a missing person reports of which clues lead you back to the creepy figure’s home.
[email protected] Console Launch Exclusives Optimized for Series X
In this delightful montage of gaming fun, we’re treated to very quick looks of fifteen indie games that are first coming to console on Xbox, and will be optimized for Xbox Series X. Titles included were The Ascent, Last Stop, Exo One, 12 Minutes, The Big Con, The Falconeer, Unexplored 2, Tunic, Shredders, Madstreets, Sable and Dead Static Drive.
A spectacular preview for the Xbox Games Showcase from the folks at Square Enix. Legendary game creators, Yuji Naka and Naoto, Ohshima, lifted the curtain on this new 3D action platformer. Travelling between different tales in the imaginary land of Wonderwold, Balon Wonderworld is a journey between fantasy and reality as you try and bring balance to others and yourself. It’s coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X in Spring 2021.
Halo Infinite – Official Campaign Gameplay
The gameplay 90% of the Xbox fanbase has been waiting for. After crash landing and getting ready to taken on a horde of enemies, Master Chief is about to face the most ruthless foe the Spartan has ever fought. The game of course looks and sounds stunning, due to running at 60FPS and up to 4k resolution with ten times the pixel processing power of Halo 5. Take a look and enjoy the laser-shooting fun.
State of Decay 3
A chilling trailer from the Xbox Games Showcase, announcing the second sequel to the State of Decay series, featuring a terrifying zombie dear. It will be available on Game Pass from day one of release.
Racing fans rejoice. This world premiere at the Xbox Games Showcase graced us with an announcement trailer for Forza Motorsport. Not only will it be out on Game Pass from day one, it will be a wonder visually, featuring ray tracing, native 4k resolution and will run at 60FPS. Everything from the trailer is captured in-game.
A new IP from the acclaimed developer, Rare, Everwild looks to be a unique and forgettable experience of being one with nature in a magical world, coming to Xbox Series X and PC.
Tell Me Why – Chapter One Launch Trailer
Another one we already knew about, but the latest narrative-driven adventure game from Life is Strange studio, DONTNOD, looks to be another gripping one in the newest trailer. Starting from chapter one, which is available from day one on Game Pass, Tell Me Why lets you play as twin brother and sister, Alyson and Tyler, as they explore and unravel the mysteries of their troubled childhood. Chapter one releases on the 27th of August 2020.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps – Optimized for Xbox Series X
Moon Studio joined the Xbox Games showcase to announce a new and improved version of Ori and the Will of the Wisps for Xbox Series X. It will include a 120hz refresh rate, 4K HDR and low latency and other features with smart delivery that will give players more options how to play.
The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon DLC
After teasing DLC earlier this week, Obsidian has at last shown off the first of its two planned story expansion packs for The Outer Worlds. On September 9 on Xbox One and PC, the journey to the Gorgon Asteroid to uncover salacious secrets, meet scandalous strangers and enjoy new thrills with new weapons against new enemies.
“Honey, Obsidian shrunk the kids!”. Also from The Outer Worlds developer, Grounded is survival adventure game that’s nothing like anything Obsidian has made before, as shown in the announcement trailer. You’re simply a bunch of shrunken young adults surviving in the big, big, wide world. Go big or never go home. You can play on Xbox or Steam Early Access from 28 July.
Obsidian has been VERY busy lately. This one only seems to be in early development though. Avowed is an epic, first-person RPG set in a land called Eora, the trailer for which gives you instant Elder Scrolls/Witcher vibes. Coming to the Series X, it’s being built from the ground up to take full advantage of the console’s massive power.
As Dusk Falls
This narrative-driven game spanning three decades is made by INTERIOR/NIGHT, one of Xbox’s recently acquired studios. It’s about the entangled lives of two families across 30 years in the American South West and finding a place in the world where you don’t fit in. It’s coming to Xbox Series X and PC.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
Not really anything new for the already-announced Hellblade sequel. We got a lot of loving thanks from Ninja Theory to the 3.5 million players of the first game, but we were offered an insight into their location scouting efforts for the sequel as the team headed to Iceland.
Psychonauts 2 – Gameplay trailer featuring Jack Black
Not only is it a gameplay trailer for the Psychonauts sequel, but it’s one with the musical and acting legend that it Jack Black. What more could you want?
Destiny 2: Beyond Light
There was a lot packed into Bungie’s quick announcement for Xbox. Destiny 2 is coming to Game Pass, all current Destiny 2 expansions will be available in September and Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to play on xCloud, which means they can play on their phones. THEN, a new version optimised for Xbox Series X, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, will come out on November 10th 2020.
The award-winning PC franchise is making its next-gen console debut with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Enjoy a trailer showing off a massive open world, some trippy yet creepy music and lots of mutants.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
Another slightly creepy announcement trailer. Darktide is a visceral 4-player co-op action game where you and your buddies get to survival against multiple terrifying hordes of enemies. Yay.
Tetris Effect: Connected
Tetris Effect is making its Xbox debut! In this Xbox Games Showcase trailer, it shows off Tetris Effect: Connected, offering an optimised single-player campaign with an all-new multiplayer. It will be available on all Xbox and Windows platforms when launching in Holiday 2020.
A vast alien world where you encounter terrifying enemies, The Gunk has a charming yet mature aesthetic to it as shown in the trailer. Take on aliens and challenging puzzles and uncover the mystery of the forgotten planet. You’ll be able to enjoy this quirky adventure on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
Next-gen horror looks mentally scarring in a wonderful way thanks to this trailer. The Medium is a psychological featuring dual-reality gameplay, utilising next-gen hardware to render to two gameplay worlds at the same time. Coming Holiday 2020 to PC and Xbox Series X.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis
Coming in 2021, Phantasy Star Online 2 offers limitless online RPG adventure with unparralleled character customisation with lots of hack-and-slash and fantasy sci-fi gameplay, as shown in the trailer.
CrossfireX – Campaign Reveal
Letting loose with a fast-paced cinematic trailer, you’d think you were getting to watch a new blockbuster. CrossfireX looks to be an epic tale in its global conflict between mercenary factions.
They truly save the best for last. Whether it’s going to be starting with a “Fable 4” or be a reboot for the franchise altogether, this humorous and visually delightful trailer signals a wondrous series returning to the world of gaming. Although said it won’t be with Lionhead Studios due to its closure in 2016, we can’t wait to see how Playground Games brings Fable back into our lives.
