“Gen DESIGN, Remedy, and Playdead are among the most innovative and talented studios in the industry, with strong visions for their next games,” said Hector Sanchez, Head of Epic Games Publishing. “They will have full creative control, while Epic will provide a solid foundation of project funding and services.”
Remedy Entertainment is coming off of last year’s success with Control, Playdead has made a name for itself with puzzle indies like Limbo and Inside, and gen DESIGN’s latest big project was the PS4 exclusive, The Last Guardian.
The partnership will allow for the three studios to have full creative freedom over the new IP under development. The games that Epic will publish gets covered entirely by its own money, while profits earned from these upcoming, unannounced titles will be split fifty-fifty. This falls in line with Epic’s “developer-first approach” as it did pay Remedy over $10 million to gain access to Control as an exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
Remedy creative director Sam Lake went onto Twitter to give a peek at what’s in the making with this new partnership with Epic Games Publishing. The studio behind Max Payne and Alan Wake will have one title that will be its “most ambitious one yet, an AAA game already in pre-pro.” A second project under development will be a “new, smaller-scale project set in the same franchise.”
Working on 2 multiplatform games for next-gen consoles and PC, published by @EpicGames. The 1st project is our most ambitious one yet, an AAA game already in pre-pro. The second is a new, smaller-scale project set in the same franchise. @remedygames https://t.co/JcctZMJOTc

While gen DESIGN has not commented on what it is working on with its new publisher, the team behind Fortnite, Playdead did post today a job listing on its website. Seven positions are open for programmers and artists of various kinds. When clicking to apply, a brief description reveals that it will be a “3rd-person science fiction adventure set in a remote corner of the universe.”
