One of the worst things about buying a brand new console is knowing the games you just purchased for your old system are now obsolete. Even if your new console is backwards compatible, the graphics and features won’t be as sharp as a game designed for next-gen. But fear not if you are a fan of the Madden NFL series. In a press release, EA has promised to upgrade players’ current-gen version of Madden NFL 21 to next-gen. The only requirement is you must purchase Madden 21 before the release of Madden NFL 22.
EA most likely did this to increase initial sales of Madden 21—which is scheduled to come out on August 25, 2020. The late August release date is close enough to the next-gen consoles delivery date that many players would have waited to purchase the game until after they bought their new console. Regardless, it’s nice to see a company offering this deal. Gamers would rejoice if this treatment became universal, especially for games with late release dates like Cyberpunk 2077.
Some other features announced in the press release for Madden 21 include:
- “Innovative new gameplay mechanics [that] deliver advanced levels of control and inspire creativity. Get crafty with the all-new Skill Stick that allows for enhanced precision on both sides of the ball.”
- A Rise to Fame mode described as a “new playable documentary career mode [that] offers all-out levels of agency and depth throughout your journey to the Hall of Fame”.
- “Player-controlled celebrations”.
Madden 21 is available for pre-order now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. If you pre-order the MVP addition, you will get to play Madden NFL 21 three days early. The MVP addition also comes with in-game items.
