EA has confirmed that a new Need for Speed game is in the works, and it won’t be long before fans get to see it.
In a recent call with investors, EA stated that a new entry in the hit Need for Speed series is planned for release later this year. It will be officially unveiled in only a few weeks, during the lead up to Gamescom 2019. No specific date was mentioned.
Developer Ghost Games initially confirmed the game’s existence in a post on EA’s help page back in May. This first announcement confirmed that the new title would focus heavily upon cars and customization, which the developer referred to as “the beating heart of what we do.” This would be the first new game in the long-running series since 2017’s Need for Speed: Payback.
Aside from those brief details, specific info on the game is scarce. However, its official title may have already been revealed. Recently, Austrian retailer Gameware posted a listing for Need for Speed Heat. As of this report, the page has not been updated or removed, suggesting that this may be the true name of the new entry.
Need for Speed will join a crowded Gamescom. Among many prominent announcements, CD Projekt Red has confirmed ambitious plans for the event to promote its upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. Gamescom will run from August 21-24.
