Dying Light 2 Will Feature All-New Characters; Have References to First Game

Techland's AMA program, featuring Dying Light 2's lead game designer, Tymon Smektala, provided an answer to the question involving the game's characters. No returning character will be seen in the follow-up title, but there would be references to the first game, as per claim. Furthermore, Smektala suggests a strong link between the first game, through its DLC, and Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2 Will Feature All-New Characters; Have References to First Game

Techland’s second follow-up to its AMA program reveals information regarding Dying Light 2’s characters—none of which are returning characters from the first game.

In the 10-minute video, starring the game’s lead designer Tymon Smektala, a series of questions were raised. One of which seemingly asking about the characters that fans can expect with the new installment.

As per Smektala’s statement, “you will not encounter any returning characters from the first game”. Which should make sense considering that the sequel takes place in a completely different urban environment from the first game. One that, in logic, would be a difficult feat for Crane to traverse, in light of a zombie apocalypse.

But while the settings are different between the prequel and the sequel, the two aren’t necessarily separate. The lead game designer effectively inferring that references for the seminal title can be found in the following title. More specifically, in either dialog or collectibles that can be found throughout the game. Fans not wanting to miss out on the minutiae ought to therefore keep an eye out for those details, which Smektala himself encourages.

Another interesting point in the discussion is the topic about which The Following DLC ending is canon. Crossing spoiler territory, the provided answer is intentionally vague. But Smektala guarantees that the first two games have strong connections with one another, particularly the DLC to Dying Light 2.
