Dune: Spice Wars Adds A New Faction

Dune: Spice Wars is a 4X strategy game available now on Steam, and follows a real-time strategy loop, tasking players with working alone or with other players, set in the world of the books and film. The game’s developer, Shiro Games, has a new update coming out soon for the currently Early Access title. The next Dune: Spice Wars update adds a brand-new faction for players to control, the Imperial House Corrino.

The developers originally announced this addition a bit earlier today with a new Tweet revealing the faction, as well as linking the Developer article at Steam’s forums, which you can see below.

The Dune: Spice Wars developers gave a little more background on the new faction through Steam, saying, “The factions on Arrakis have become unruly, and as such, the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV is left with no choice but to make a rare trip to the desert planet, alongside his feared Sardaukar in order to remind them of his dominion. While he holds a lot of power, he must also be careful to preserve certain essential relationships, most crucially with the Spacing Guild.”

The biggest gameplay change comes in the form of the economy that House Corrino manages. House Corrino’s economy is managed through paying spice taxes to other factions and taking bribes from those very same factions to profit. Players will also have to pay the Spacing Guild’s fees, enabling interstellar travel at an affordable rate and ultimately holding the whole empire together,

As for when the Imperial House Corrino comes to Dune: Spice Wars, the developers merely said, “House Corrino will join the battle in the next major update, releasing soon. Stay tuned for news…” Essentially, there’s no concrete answer, but we’ll update when that becomes a reality.

Dune: Spice Wars is in Early Access now exclusively on PC via Steam.
