A handful of announcements were dropped at the Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary Special live stream event. The biggest one was the reveal of Dragon Quest XII at the end. Only the game’s title and logo image were shown off in a short clip during the special. Series creator Yuji Horii was part of the event and said that Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate will be a much “darker” take on the series.
The Dragon Quest series is a long-running line of JRPGs, and its newest title aims to change some things like commanding battles. No release date or platforms have been announced yet, but according to Horii, Dragon Quest XII should have a simultaneous global launch. Development is in the prototyping stages, so the lack of any real details about the game is to be expected.
While the Dragon Quest XII reveal is arguably the biggest announcement from the series’ 35th Anniversary special event, it is not the only significant thing they talked about. The Dragon Quest 3 HD 2D Remake was also announced during the hour and 10-minute long event, and Dragon Quest X Offline was announced for Japan. Meanwhile, version six of Dragon Quest X Online is coming soon, but there are no plans for a worldwide release.
They also talked about Dragon Quest Treasures, a spin-off from the main series. This one is not a traditional RPG but will involve “treasure hunting“ of some sort. As with the biggest announcement of the show, this game also does not have any release date or launch platforms announced yet.
Fans will just have to wait patiently until more news is released in the future for the games they discussed during the special live stream event.
