With countless delays, it was unknown when Digimon Survive would finally release. The latest video game in the popular Digimon series was announced back in 2018, as a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise. Since then, the release date has been pushed back repeatedly. The delays have been due to various reasons, including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The last was on October 28, 2021, when it was announced that Digimon Survive was officially delayed to 2022. There is yet to be a specific release date, or even a release window.
However, there is some more positive news. On December 1st, the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) rated Digimon Survive as T for Teen. On their website, they listed the game as having Crude Humor, Fantasy Violence, Language, and Mild Blood. Since the ESRB describes the game’s content in detail, does this mean it’s nearly ready for public release? It sounds like the ESRB have played a finished version of Digimon Survive. It probably wouldn’t have received a rating if it wasn’t anywhere near ready yet. Is this a good sign that anticipating fans won’t have to wait much longer? That seems to be the case.
Digimon, or Digimon: Digital Monsters, is a Japanese franchise about virtual pets. It was created in 1997 by Bandai and WiZ, starting off as a virtual pet toy. It rivalled Tamagotchi, another virtual pet toy, promoted as being more masculine. The designs of the monsters were influenced by American comics, which were popular in Japan. The original Digimon toys have sold millions of units. There have also been anime, manga, video games, films, and trading cards.
Digimon Survive, the latest Digimon video game, is described as being a visual novel game with survival-RPG elements. It is being developed by Witchcraft and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. In Digimon Survive, the story follows a group of teenagers on a school camping trip, who find the monsters in a strange new world. The player can influence what happens in the story and to the characters by the choices they make. Their decisions also affect their Digimon’s digivolution.Â
Digimon Survive is set to be released on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Although they haven’t mentioned the PS5, ESRB listed Xbox Series X/S as one of the platforms, so it’s assumed that the PS5 will also be included.
