Diablo 4’s fans have been waiting patiently for the game’s next expansion. However, they might be disappointed to hear that the game’s next expansion won’t arrive until 2026 instead of 2025. The news regarding the next expansion of Diablo 4 was announced by General Manager Rod Fergusson. Speaking at DICE Summit in Las Vegas, Fergusson announced the news as he was nearing the end of his talk. The following quote was shared by IGN.
“In 2025, or just before Season 8, we will have a 2025 roadmap for Diablo 4. Now, our second expansion won’t be on that roadmap, because our second expansion is coming in 2026, but at least players will have the road ahead.”

The reason behind the delay hasn’t been announced, but fans speculated that it has to do with another delay. The Vessel of Hatred expansion, released in October 2024, was released, according to Fergusson, 18 months after the initial launch of the game. The plan was to release it after 12 months. Such a delay came after making adjustments based on players’ feedback. With the delay of Vessel of Hatred, Diablo 4’s next expansion was delayed as well.
What’s Next After the Delay of Diablo 4’s Next Expansion
Now that Diablo 4’s next expansion is delayed, fans will want to know what’s next for the game. During the same summit, Fergusson announced that Diablo 4 will start releasing content roadmaps. This means that fans can expect a content roadmap for Diablo 4 during 2025. The roadmap will highlight new seasons and updates which is something fans would want to know about. However, there is no specific release date for when Diablo 4’s next expansion would be released in 2026.
The good news is that this new expansion is in active development which means that hopefully there won’t be any further delays. A Blizzard spokesperson told Polygon the following:
“In his DICE Summit presentation today on building a resilient live service, Diablo GM Rod Fergusson emphasized serving the game over the plan. To that, we are excited to share that we are in development on our second expansion for Diablo IV, which will debut in 2026.”
