Destiny Taken King – No More DLC

Seems like Bungie are ditching DLC packs for this years Destiny DLC. Do you like it or hate it?

Last year Destiny was a rather disappointing release for many people with most of those feeling like the game was locked behind 2 expansion packs, which were £19.99 each. To many this felt like a serious example of how the gaming industry was milking its fans. This year we were treated with a full expansion pack for Destiny in the form of The Taken King which added new weapons, level cap, equipment and an actual story mode. With this expansion showing significant improvement on the game and future of the series plenty of Destiny fans, and general players, were awaiting DLC to add on to this improving game.

However it is confirmed by Bungie's Senior Designer Derek Carroll, in an interview with Eurogamer at Playstation Experience, that there will be no DLC packs for the Taken King.

DerekCarroll: "With Taken King we are moving to a more event based model – things like Festival of the Lost and Sparrow Racing, which is our winter event, and them smaller events such as Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris every weekend… Rather than doing these giant, monolithic DLC pack, this way everybody who's an owner of Taken King can enjoy these things."

So it seems that the scarce events from last year will be the main event of this years gaming in Destiny's universe. This may seem happy to many gamers as no more money will have to be parted with for those who want to keep up with this game. However it does seem that there will be no more expansion to the Destiny's story, which was actually starting to form, or more Raids which are, to many players, the main reason to play the game.

This fact of there being no DLC's does seem to confirm that the micro transactions added earlier have had an impact on the game as these appear to the substitute for paid DLC's. Although free events are great in an MMO styled game. How many people will be satisfied with no extra raids to test their skill? And will currently active players find the events enough to keep them active to the release of Destiny 2?

This news does have its pros and cons. The question is, which side are you on? Do you appreciate no more paid content? Or would you be happy to pay to add significant extras to your gaming experience? Tell us in the comments below.
