EA have officially revealed that the Command & Conquer franchise will be returning to PC. Remasters of the original Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command & Conquer: Red Alert are in the works. C&C: Red Alert will arrive with all three expansions: Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath. Both games including DLCs will launch as a single remastered collection bundle with no microtransactions.
Electronic Arts’ classic real-time strategy games will be remastered with the help from Petroglyph Games. The studio behind the works of fellow strategy titles such as Star Wars: Empire at War, Grey Goo and Guardians of Graxia. Additionally, the founding members at Petroglyph worked on the original Command & Conquer titles as part of the former Westwood Studios.
EA Creative Director, Jim Vessella, stated in a news post on the EA website that, ''Petroglyph Games includes many of the original developers from Westwood Studios, and some of the most influential members of the original Command & Conquer development team from 1995.''
These members include Joe Bostic, who’s known as ''the co-creator of C&C''. He served as the lead programmer on both Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert. He’s joined by Steve Tall who was also a lead programmer on Red Alert and Mike Legg, a long term Westwood Studios employee who contributed to all form of audio systems at the studio. All three helped start Petroglyph Games back in 2003.
Vessella also announced that original C&C composer, Frank Klepacki will be re-joining Petroglyph to be the composer and audio director for the remastered collection. The developers noticed that this was a big request from the Command & Conquer community and the creative director described it as ''a cherry on top'' for fans.
It was also stated in the news post that the developers are teaming up Lemon Sky Studios "to help bring these original games to 4k glory.''
We don't yet know of a release date for the Command & Conquer remastered collection but fans of the series will certainly be happy to know the project is in the works.
