The YouTube channel of Cities: Skylines announced a Remastered version coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The trailer came out on February 8 and revealed the remaster would be released on February 15. The main reason for the enhanced version obviously lies in an endeavor to provide the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players with the opportunity to dive deep into this famous city builder. The original Cities: Skylines dropped in March 2015 and has been popular among enthusiastic players since.
The developers also promise some new stuff besides increased graphical performance. The trailer mentions a quick selection tool, UX improvements like updated snapping options, or a map editor. New buyers alongside owners of the original version, who will get the remaster for free, will be finally able to build bigger cities. Currently, they can use only nine tiles. However, Cities Skylines: Remastered on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S hands players 25 buildable tiles. Players will also control the time of the day and weather conditions. For example, they will be able to switch a bright sunny day for a rainy and foggy night.
Although fans of Cities: Skylines would probably be more grateful for Cities: Skylines 2, the remaster for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S seems warranted. After all, it brings the experience to other platforms, adds some useful things, and, most importantly, a map editor that surely devoted players will appreciate. Still, the hardcore fans might have preferred official multiplayer for the original game. At this point, only a mod enables playing Cities: Skylines online with friends.
