Developers The Farm 51 and publishers All In! Games have announced they are bringing Chernobylite to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this coming July. Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions are slated to launch later in the year. Chernobylite is a modern-day sci-fi survival horror RPG. Based on what has been released to the public thus far, it will arguably feature the most photo-realistic depictions of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone to date.
The game’s impressive visuals stem from its use of the Unreal Engine 4, combined with Reality 51’s 3D scanning technology. The developers state they have been developing this scanning tech for over five years.
The game, which is currently in Early Access, has recently received a ‘Mega Patch’ update, which the developers are calling ‘Final Stage’. This contains:
‘…a total of several thousand fixes and improvements to the game’, covering every aspect of Chernobylite, from the story, to gameplay, graphics, to technical issues.
The Farm 51’s prior work includes Painkiller: Hell and Damnation, Deadfull Adventures and Get Even.
Comparisons to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. from Ukrainian developers GSC Gameworld will no doubt abound. But will Chernobylite be ‘just another Stalkerlike’? Or will it bring us something new? We will find out in July.
Chernobylite for PC is currently available via Steam in Early Access and GOG Games in Development for $29.99 / £23.99 / €24.99.
