The tweet talks about an attack that they’ve been hacked and that the hackers have possession of certain data that belongs to their capital group. Some of their devices have also been encrypted like their servers, but they said they can easily restore it with the backups they have. CD PROJEKT RED assures everyone that no personal data from their players or users were compromised. The hackers have also left a ransom note saying they have possession of an unreleased version of Witcher 3 and other important files. However, the studio said they will not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the hackers and that they have already contacted law enforcement to investigate the attack.
The hacker’s motives are unknown but CD PROJEKT RED has been the target of criticism because of the launch failure of their recent game, Cyberpunk 2077. Community outrage was all over social media as players found countless bugs that prevented them from actually enjoying the game. The studio is now focusing on fixing the game and making it the best it could be.
