Cate Blanchett Cast as Lilith in Borderlands Movie

Eli Roth’s Borderlands movie has cast it’s leading lady, Cate Blanchett, to play Lilith the Siren. After the rumors Lilith would be the main protagonist in this upcoming film adaptation of the immensely popular looter-shooter, Lionsgate’s official Twitter account confirmed the news. Not much info has come out about this movie adaptation, so it is unclear whether the film will follow the events of a specific game. Most video game movies are fairly loose adaptations of the source material, so we are betting that it likely will not closely follow any story we have seen so far. Although, seeing Handsome Jack on the big screen does seem massively entertaining.

You may recognize Cate Blanchett from her role as the antagonist Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. She played this role to universal acclaim, so it is easy to get excited about her playing Lilith. Director Eli Roth has mostly directed horror projects in his career, such as the first two Hostel movies along with the gritty cannibal movie Green Inferno. It will be interesting to see how he handles the very specific type of humor Borderlands fans have come to known and love. With a pretty spotty track record of video game movies in general, it is going to be very interesting to see how a Borderlands movie turns out.

Are you excited for this film adaptation, or extremely nervous? Borderlands 3, the latest entry in the series, received a very favorable review from us last year, and we are really hoping the movie can do the same.
