Call of Duty to “Return to Roots”; Activision Talks Passion

Activision revealed new information about the newest Call of Duty game during the publisher's financial conference call for 2016 today, as well as insight into why Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare still had the go ahead despite being another entry set in space.

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg talked about the the newest entry in the long-running Call of Duty series today during the publisher's financial conference call for 2016, promising to take the franchise “back to its roots."

Developed by Sledgehammer Games, the creators of 2014's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, gameplay will focus on traditional-style combat, an exciting precedent that, according to Activision, will be beneficial for both the Call of Duty community at large and the developers at Sledgehammer Games.

In regards to last year's Call of Duty: Infinite Warfarewhich did not meet expectations, Activision explained that they saw the risks in another space-themed title but knew they had a talented studio at work on it, and considered the passion of developers in deciding what to go through with.

Activision outlined that this is one of their core tenants, and that having teams that are passionate on what they're working on is a critical part to their success.
