Rumor: Bungie’s New IP Could be a Fantasy RPG

According to Job listings on Bungie's official website, their new IP seems to be a Fantasy RPG with looting mechanics. From the listings, it seems they will be borrowing a bit from Borderlands with their desire for a more humorous experience. Will stepping away from Destiny prove fruitful for this game studio?

Bungie Seems to be Working on a Fantasy RPG

Bungie seems to be delving into the realm of fantasy based upon some recent job listings on the studio’s official website. This new IP could be the game Bungie had trademarked in 2018 titled Matter, all the info we got from that listing was a possible logo for this upcoming title. The info we can gather from the job listings may shed some light on what this game may be.

We can see this game may be akin to the wildly popular looter shooter Borderlands which is known for its own unique brand of comedy, due to the listing for Incubation Art Director. The listing includes the question, “Would you like to work on something comedic with lighthearted and whimsical characters?”

Is this the next Bungie game's logo?

Some fantasy hijinks does sound like a fun and stark change for Bungie. Although, it’s the posting for the Incubation Investment Designer that gives us the juiciest bit of info about Bungie’s next title,

You are the glue between the sword and the reward. You will work in tandem with our sandbox and economy teams to build and distribute items to our players. Living inside a giant database of hundreds of baubles, weapons, and armor is nothing new to you. And neither is building a system to cleverly distribute those items in a necromancer’s dungeon.

Since the game still seems to be in the early development phases for this IP, many things are subject to change. Although, we can see that Bungie is definitely looking to take a step away from their current Sci-Fi juggernaut Destiny
