The Pokémon franchise has been around for over 20 plus years and has been wildly successful ever since fans first adventured into the Kanto region. Many have been clamoring for a solo Pokémon game on the Nintendo Switch or any main Nintendo console for years. Fans will get their wish with the newly announced Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go Eevee games for Nintendo Switch.
These two games will allow players to return to the Kanto region from the first games in the franchise. Each will feature the original set of Pokémon. Players can also play the solo campaign multiplayer for the first time in franchise history. Catching Pokémon will work similar to Pokémon GO utilizing the Joy-Cons and tablet. There will also be a new peripheral released with the games simply called the Pokéball.
This device will allow players to use it in place of a Joy-Con to catch their Pokémon. They can then also be stored within the device and walked around to gain experience. This is similar to Pokémon GO's buddy feature. The new titles will have full integration with Pokémon GO allowing transferring of Kanto only Pokémon between the games. Gifts can also be given by Pokémon GO to your Pokémon Let's Go game which may involve an all-new Pokémon yet to be seen before.
Battling wild Pokémon is not possible in the new titles but instead players can catch their favorites similarly to how it's done in Pokémon GO. Battling will be possible with NPC's such as other trainers and possibly gym leaders. The games are similar to Pokémon Yellow in terms of allowing your partner Pokémon travel outside the Pokéball. These games are intended for newcomers to the franchise.
There will also be no Pokémon breeding available in the games but there will be the Alolan forms of the Kanto Pokémon for players to catch and train. Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee will release alongside the new Pokéball peripheral November 16, 2018. It was also announced that new mainline Pokémon games more akin to the handheld games will release on the Switch for veterans & newbies alike in late 2019.
