The reveal of the new Battlefield game will be happening “soon”, EA has confirmed. In a blog post, the publisher also announced that they are working on a mobile game in the franchise, aiming for release in 2022.

Starting with the mainline Battlefield, EA and DICE confirmed it is still on track to release later this year, despite many titles in the industry being delayed due to the pandemic.

Battlefield 2021 is being worked on by four studios. DICE, Criterion, DICE Los Angeles and Electronic Arts Gothenberg are all playing a role in the military shooter. Criterion has recently had their Need for Speed project delayed to assist with this Battlefield, whilst DICE Los Angeles is headed up by Vince Zampella – well known for establishing Call of Duty.

Oskar Gabrielson, General Manager at DICE, describes the new iteration of Battlefield as a “bold step” and confirms the game is in the ‘polishing’ stages of development.

As for the mobile game announced today, EA confirmed Industrial Toys are the main developers, working alongside DICE. The Mobile developer has previously worked on Midnight Star.

“Make no mistake, this is a standalone game. A completely different game from the one we’re making for console and PC, designed specifically for the mobile platform. It’s being built from the ground up by iToys to make Battlefield-on-the-go a reality and you can expect a fully-fledged, skill-based experience. This mobile game is now entering a testing period ahead of launching next year, so expect more details to come”, said Gabrielson

Typically, Battlefield games are revealed in May, so that might give some indication of the ‘soon’ timeline.
