Games Done Quick, the organization behind the semiannual speedrunning events, has announced the dates for their next charity drive. This comes just weeks after the last successful event, Summer Games Done Quick, raised $2.3M for Doctors Without Borders.
Awesome Games Done Quick will take place virtually from January 3rd-10th. Just like SGDQ 2020, the first event of 2021 will be held online, streaming segments live from GDQ studio. Speedrunners will again be streaming from their own homes. The event will be raising money in support of the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
In a statement, Director of Marketing and Business Development Kasumi Yogi said,
“While we eagerly await the day when we can see our speedrun family and friends again, we will be continuing with an online format for AGDQ 2021 so that we can continue to observe best practices in keeping our comunity safe in the midst of COVID-19. We hope that conditions surrounding the pandemic improve so we can return to a venue for future events.”
Games Done Quick is currently accepting applications for game submissions, prize submissions, and volunteer support staff. They are also preparing for an all-female charity stream, Fleet Fatales, running from November 15th-21st in support of the Malala Fund.
