Apparent Fable Leak Gives Gameplay and Story Information

It seems Microsoft will likely have information to give about the next Fable game at their E3 press conference this Sunday, but some of that information may have leaked early.

According to a Reddit user who has since deleted their post and account, the next Fable game will be completely open world and take place far in the future from the previous titles. Despite the time jump, technology has supposedly devolved, with the guns found in Fable 2 and 3 not making a return. The original post, though since deleted, can still be found here.

Story

The supposed leak also gives story details, including why technology has regressed. If you remember the Spire from Fable 2, you know it can be used to make a wish. In the time between Fable 3 and this new entry, a mad king made use of the Spire to strike the planet with an asteroid, reducing the lands of Albion and Aurora “to fables,” and wishing for the event to repeat in the distant future.

Many years after this, the people of the planet have progressed into a medieval stage of development. But the destruction of their home is once again imminent.

Not everything from the first three Fable games is gone, however. The Heroes Guild and Theresa are accessible on another planet by use of a Demon Door, and Jack of Blades will make a return. Time travel will also be an important aspect of the plot.

Gameplay

The leak originally included a video of gameplay, but that has also been deleted. Characters will be able to be controlled via a first or third-person camera perspective. Players will also be able to avoid becoming a hero by ignoring the main questline and enjoying the other parts of the game. This Fable game will be built using the Unreal Engine, and will also include multiplayer, though the leak says nothing about its implementation.

It’s been a long time since we’ve gotten a new Fable game, with the closure of Lionhead Studios in 2016 and the cancellation of Fable Legends. Since then, we’ve only seen the release of a Fable-branded free-to-play card game on Xbox One. Forza Horizon developer Playground Games has been rumored to have been working on a new Fable game for a while now.
