In a world of retro-inspired games aplenty, the newest addition to this trend has finally locked on target. Steel Assault, a 16-bit action-platformer with a colorful sci-fi aesthetic, will release on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on September 28th, as first reported by Game Informer. The linked article also houses an exclusive launch trailer.

Steel Assault is the debut work of developer Zenovia Interactive, a studio based in New York City. Their team consists of international members with previous experience in games like BlasphemousDevil Engine, and Xydonia. The game managed a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2015, though development slowed for a number of years, per the updates panel. Collaborating with Tribute Games in late 2020 to publish the game was when the proverbial engine began to rev.

The synopsis of the game is as follows, per Steam:

Punch, whip, and zipline your way through a post-apocalyptic America in this 16-bit retro-style action platformer! Play as Taro Takahashi, a resistance soldier on a revenge mission against the dictator who lords over the ashes.
