A Remake of Knights of the Old Republic Is In the Works

Rumors have been circulating for over a year now about the possibility of a Knights of the Old Republic remake, with many of them stemming from a tweet from Schreier himself in February of 2020. More fuel was added to the fire earlier this year when Aspyr Media went on an ex-BioWare hiring spree. The company was also reported to be working on a mystery $70 million budget title, but there was nothing definitive until now.

When inquired by host Ben Hanson regarding Schreier’s vague-year-old Knights of the Old Republic tweet, Schreier stood by it that the game is still in the works.

This will be the studio’s first project that isn’t a port. Its history includes porting titles such as Civilization VI and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for macOS. It most recently worked on getting Star Wars: Republic Commando for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

Although the Switch port for Republic Commando was poorly received due to running at sub-30 FPS, Aspyr was also responsible for getting KOTOR on iOS and Android, which were very well received.

It is still unclear how Knights of the Old Republic will fit in the new Star Wars canon, but fans are excited about the series being revived.
