Dead Island 2 Leaks Uncover A Playable Build From 2015

Dead Island 2 has been in development since 2014 with no sight of a release date. However, fans of the franchise have unearthed a playable five-year-old build of the game. Originally uncovered on imageboard website 4chan, players shared and downloaded the file which allowed them to play an unfinished version of Dead Island 2.

A Playable Build of Dead Island 2 Has Been Found By Fans

Dead Island 2 has been in development for what seems like an eternity. Dambuster Studios is currently leading development, but the title has undergone multiple developer changes, raising questions over the game’s quality. However, some recent Dead Island 2 leaks have unearthed a five-year-old, playable build of the game. Originally uncovered on 4chan, the build contains various placeholder items as it’s unfinished but is fully functional and playable.

Eurogamer confirmed the build to be a cancelled version developed by Yager five years ago. We can’t really glean what the final product will look like from this build due to the game having gone through multiple changes in development, but a THQ Nordic financial report in early 2019 did state that the game is still being worked on. This is backed up by Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz in an interview published in November last year by gamesindustry.biz.

Klemens Kundratitz:
“Look, Dead Island is a very important brand for us and we’ve got to get it right. It’s just a testimony of our dedication to get it right. It’s a great story to tell everyone that it’s on its third studio, but we like to be judged on the end result and we’re really confident that when it comes out it’s going to be a kick-ass zombie game. We’ll certainly give it all our power.”

When Dead Island 2 will finally hit store shelves is anybody’s guess, but we can probably assume it’ll be a next-gen title. That is if the game comes out at all.
