New version of Gear VR features handheld controller
Announced at Mobile World Congress, a new version of Gear VR looks identical to its previous iteration with the only difference being a handheld controller. The new controller "adds a deeper level of immersion by giving you the power to interact with the virtual environment in an intuitive way". The controller’s touchpad lets you perform select, grab, take aim, and fire actions. It also incorporates home, volume, and back buttons that are situated on the VR device in the current iteration of the product.

Together with the new controller news, Oculus also unveiled that more than 70 new controller titles are already in development. The company promises to "open up the Gear VR Controller SDK to all developers in a few weeks". You can already submit an SDK or Gear VR Controller hardware request on the official website.

Lastly, you can catch Oculus co-founders, content leads, and the Developer Relations team at GDC. They will be waiting in Booth 1014 in the North Hall on March 1 – 3 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.
