The Good Life Guide: “Lonely Mrs. Jasmine” Side Quest

This guide will help you fulfil the wishes of Rainy Woods resident Jan Yi Han and get the photos that she wants in the Lonely Mrs Jasmine side quest. She asks you to take some photos of chickens in aid of her own pet chicken. Jan's request is very specific, wanting photos of particular chickens in certain conditions.

Jan Yi Han is one of many memorable residents in the quirky yet picturesque town of Rainy Woods in The Good Life. She’s memorable for two reasons: for her delicious scones, and also for her chicken, Mrs. Jasmine, who lays golden eggs. Jan gives out some side quests throughout The Good Life, usually centering on her scones or her chicken or her golden eggs. One side quest, “Lonely Mrs Jasmine”, is a little different.

Jan doesn’t want you to gather cooking ingredients or golden eggs for her. Instead, she wants you to take photos of some chickens. Sounds straightforward, but it isn’t. Jan is quite particular about this request. She wants you to photograph specific chickens under certain circumstances. This guide will help you take the photos you need to complete the side quest “Lonely Mrs Jasmine”.

FIRST, SPEAK TO JAN YI HAN

To start this side quest, you first need to speak to the chicken-and-scone lady herself, Jan Yi Han. She’s not usually difficult to find. She can be found in the backyard behind the Happy Scones business she runs. Happy Scones is on the corner, near Mushroom & Evans and Fancy & Bunny. The backyard is through a small gate around the back of Happy Scones. You’ll see a chicken, Mrs. Jasmine, pecking about the yard. Jan will either be standing in the yard or in the little shed at the back.

If Jan’s not in her backyard, she’ll be somewhere else, but she won’t be far. Around the New and Full Moon, you’ll find her wandering about the town square, selling her precious limited-time golden eggs. If she’s not there nor in her backyard, look in Mushroom & Evans, as she might be in there.

If Jan isn't selling her wares in the town square, she'll be in the café or her backyard.

When you do manage to track Jan down, speak to her to trigger the side quest. According to her, her chicken, Mrs. Jasmine, has been feeling lonely lately. Jan thinks that Mrs. Jasmine will cheer up if you show her a photo of some of Mrs. Jasmine’s friends. That’s not all of it though. Specifically, Jan wants the photo to be taken on a clear day.

With that, it’s time to start the quest.

FIRST PHOTO REQUEST: CHICKENS ON A CLEAR DAY

Now you’ve got your first task assigned by Jan, it’s time to go and do it. Remember, Jan wants a photo of some chickens on a clear day. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, it is, but you do need to meet some requirements.

The task requires you to take photos of chickens, but not just any chickens. Chickens can be found in Rainy Woods and the surrounding area. For example, some can be found in the yard at Burley’s Farm. However, these are not the chickens that Jan is referring to. She is talking about some very special chickens, ones that can only be found in a special place.

There are chickens at places such as Burley's Farm, but they're not the ones you need to photograph.

If you’ve been playing through the main story of The Good Life, you have to complete three different quests that’ll lead to the final chapter of the story. One of these quests, Route B, eventually leads you to a strange place, the site of a UFO, complete with a circle of stones. Also at this peculiar site are some chickens. These aren’t just any chickens though. These chickens, like Mrs. Jasmine, lay golden eggs around the New and Full Moon cycle. They also drop some special feathers, which you can collect for crafting. There are at least two chickens hanging around the stone circle.

So, you’ve found the right chickens, a.k.a. “Mrs. Jasmine’s friends”. That’s great, but that’s not all. To get the right photo for Jan, the conditions must be right. Jan specifically requests a photo of the chickens on a clear day. For that, you need to meet two conditions. First, it needs to be daytime, which is between 5am and 9pm. You can see that it’s daytime by checking in the top-right corner of the screen. The yellow sun icon means it’s officially daytime, while the purple moon icon means it’s officially nighttime. Make sure the yellow sun icon is showing when you take the photo.

Not only does it need to be daytime when you photograph the chickens, but it also has to be a perfect clear sunny day. Weather varies in The Good Life. You can get clear days with blue skies and sunshine, but you can also get dull cloudy days, as well as wet rainy days. To match Jan’s requirements, it must be a sunny day.

A day like this is perfect for the photo Jan wants.

When you go to take the photo, you must make sure of three things. You must photograph the chickens at the UFO site. You can warp over there via the Stonehenge Shrine. It must also be daytime, and a clear sunny day. Make sure the yellow sun icon is on display and not the purple moon icon. Also, make sure it’s not overcast or raining. If it’s raining or cloudy, you’ll have to wait for the weather to clear. You can sleep in the tent at the campsite near the UFO site to speed up time. Hopefully then the weather will change to clear.

Once you’re sure you’ve got all three requirements for the photo, it’s time to get snapping. Note that Jan mentioned Mrs. Jasmine having more than one friend. Don’t worry. This doesn’t mean you need to have more than one chicken in the photo. If you focus the camera on one of the special chickens, a tag will display with “Mrs. Jasmine’s friends”, even if it’s just one chicken you’re photographing. So long as this tag appears, plus all the other requirements are met, you’ve got the photo right.

Once you have at least one photo meeting Jan’s requirements, return to her. Make sure that when you report to Jan, you have the side quest “Lonely Mrs Jasmine” activated. Speak to Jan and select “Let’s Chat” when the option comes up. Jan will ask you to hand over the photo. Make sure you give her the right photo. You can check the tag on the photo when you select it. If you’ve done everything right, Jan will be happy – but she’s not done yet…

SECOND PHOTO REQUEST: CHICKENS ON A RAINY NIGHT

Jan’s not finished yet. She wants another photo of Mrs. Jasmine’s chicken friends. This one has a similar concept to the first photo, but in different circumstances. While the first photo has the chickens basking in glorious daylight, Jan thinks a photo of the chickens in the rain will look great, even more so at night. Basically, she wants a photo of the chickens in opposite conditions, wet and dark instead of dry and sunny.

Now you get the idea of the task from doing the first photo, this second photo shouldn’t be too hard. You just have to wait for the right moment and the right conditions. Return to the UFO site where the chickens are. This time, you need to make sure it’s nighttime and raining.

A rainy night like this is exactly what Jan wants for the second photo.

There are less nighttime hours than daylight. Nighttime officially starts at 9pm and ends at 5am. It gives you plenty of time to take the photo though. Make sure that when you take the photo, the purple moon icon is on display.

For the second new condition, it must be raining. The weather is pretty balanced in The Good Life, with a mixture of sunny, cloudy, and wet days (and nights). You’ll have to wait for the rain to arrive if it hasn’t already. Remember that you can skip time by sleeping at a tent or in Naomi’s bed back at her house.

Once it’s raining at nighttime, you can take the photo of the chickens. Again, you only need one chicken in the frame to meet the requirements. Just make sure the photo is tagged with “Mrs. Jasmine’s friends”, plus that it’s raining at night.

This photo is dark because it was taken at night, and it's raining.

Once you’re sure you’ve got the photo right, return to Jan. She’s not normally around at night, so you’ll have to wait until the morning to speak to her. Make sure that when you speak to her, the “Lonely Mrs Jasmine” quest is activated.

Just as before, Jan will ask you to hand over the photo. Make sure you give her the right one. If she rejects it, you’ll have to take another photo, but so long as you meet all the requirements, this shouldn’t happen.

Jan will be very pleased with the second photo you give her, and asks no further requests of you, at least not for this side quest. For your efforts, she’ll give you a reward of £100.

Jan just wants to cheer up her lonely chicken Mrs. Jasmine.

That completes the guide to the Jan Yi Han side quest “Lonely Mrs Jasmine”! This side quest isn’t really too difficult, not compared to some of the other quests, but it does have a lot of conditions you need to meet. Not only do you have to photograph the right chickens, but you need to make sure the weather and time-of-day match Jan’s requirements. You don’t want to hand in a photo that gets rejected, forcing you to try again. As a precaution, while you work on it, make sure the side quest is selected from the quest menu.
