Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo: How to Unlock the TMP (Secret Weapon)

Here you will learn how to unlock the secret TMP weapon in the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo. This weapon is considerably stronger and it stays in your inventory for subsequent playthroughs of the demo. While we wait for the full game release, this is the best chance to learn the game's mechanics and have some fun in the process!

Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo How to Unlock the TMP (Secret Weapon).

Resident Evil 4 Remake is just around the corner, and Capcom recently made a spotlight event where a Demo version of the game was announced, along with other important announcements regarding their upcoming games. The demo was released on Steam, PS4 & PS5, and Xbox Series X|S that same day. The demo has a short duration of 15 to 20 minutes depending on your skill and playstyle, but it is indeed a very intense experience that lives up to the original game. However, the Resident Evil 4: Chainsaw Demo holds a couple of interesting secrets that makes it worth replaying it a few times (like an optional hard difficulty called “mad chainsaw”, for example), but the best one is probably the secret TMP weapon hiding in a secret area under the village.

Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo: Where to Find the Secret TMP Weapon

If you didn’t manage to find this iconic weapon from the original game inside the demo when you played it for the first time, worry not. Here I’ve made a step-by-step guide on how to unlock the secret weapon of the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo: the TMP. Keep in mind that this weapon’s location may not be the same in the full game considering the TMP could only be bought from the merchant in the original 2005 game (which will probably be the case in the remake too). In any case, if you want to have some fun in Resident Evil 4’s Chainsaw Demo with the Tactical Machine Pistol (in case you were wondering what the letters stand for), here’s what you need to do.

Step 1: Play the Demo as You Normally Would Until You Escape the Cabin

If you already played the demo, you shouldn’t have any trouble with this step. If not, you should first tamper with the game’s accessibility options, which are really interesting and allow every player to adjust the demo to their own playstyle. After you finish adjusting the language, visual settings, and everything you want to adjust, start the game and watch the cinematic in case you want to do so.

As Leon spawns in the beginning area, walk towards the cabin and go inside it. Walk towards the end of the hallway and watch the cinematic with the first villager of the game (or skip it, if you wish to). You can explore as much or as little as you want, it’s up to you.

After the cinematic, grab the key from the villager’s corpse and head to the locked door in the hallway. Go through it using the key, go down the basement, and reach the end of it for another short cinematic. After you regain control of Leon, try to go back upstairs to find the same villager Leon apparently already killed trying to give it back to you. Shoot as many pistol bullets as you need to kill the zombie one more time,  you probably won’t need them later…

Go back upstairs and crouch to avoid alerting the enemies around the area. You must go through the newly opened door to reach the stairs and head to the second floor. Once you get there, go through the door and you will automatically escape the cabin after the cinematic. After this, prepare for Step 2.

Step 2: Reach the Bloody Gate, But Don’t Go Through It Yet

Everything is almost exactly the same until you reach the bloody gate, where the first real important step begins. After you escape the cabin, you will be exploring a very linear area on the outside where you can’t get lost, because you just have to keep walking forward. You will also find a few items and enemies along the way. It is recommended to kill them using as many bullets as you need. As I said, you won’t need any pistol bullets later on, so don’t worry. You can even use your knife too if you want to play around with it.

After you kill every single enemy in this area, you will reach a bloody gate with the Los Iluminados symbol on it, and a few severed heads on it (refer to the image below in case you want to make sure which one it is). It is very important to NOT go through this gate yet or you will void the chance to get the TMP, at least in this playthrough. As soon as you get here, go to the next step so you know what to do before proceeding.

Step 3: Discard Every Single Item In Your Inventory, Then Go Through the Bloody Gate

Now that you’re right in front of the aforementioned gate, you must perform the most unexpected task of this guide: Discard every single item in your inventory. This is not an early April Fool’s joke or anything like that, this is the only way to unlock the Secret TMP Weapon in the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo.

At this point you have to access the inventory menu, select every item in it and press “discard” on each one of them. Just like that. In case you don’t have your health bar full and you still have any first aid sprays or healing herbs left, it’s best to just use them to go full health instead of discarding those items. It doesn’t matter how, just empty your inventory before you go through the gate where the final fight of the demo begins. As soon as you’re sure you have nothing left on you, go through the gate and proceed to the next step.

Step 4: Enter the Village and Remain Undetected

After clearing your inventory and going through the bloody gate with the severed heads on it, you will enter the Village. This area is full of enemies, and as soon as they spot you, you will have to fight them and survive the horde to finish the Chainsaw Demo. But there’s a slight problem, you don’t have any weapons on you. You just discarded your pistol and knife before getting here, remember? So instead of exposing yourself and initiating a fight you cannot face, crouch, and lay low. You can still go and grab the TMP even if you get spotted, but it’s best if you don’t have 30 enemies behind your back when you’re doing so.

There are two entry points where you can access the TMP weapon, but the one you should try is the one on the right. Before you go there, get to the spot shown in the image below. Once you’re wandering this area, it is very important to be crouched at all times to avoid getting spotted. Here, you will have to wait for a patrolling old lady villager to walk to the left before going right. As soon as she does, quickly head towards the path she was patrolling and get to the end of it before proceeding to the next step. Take note that this lady will come back to keep patrolling this narrow path, so make sure to do this as fast as you can while still being crouched.

Step 5: Go Down the Ladder and Grab the TMP

Once you reach the end of this path and move to the left, you will notice a ladder that goes down to some kind of well. This “well” is completely sealed if you reach this area with items inside your inventory that you found prior to opening the bloody gate with the Los Illuminados symbol. So if you were wondering why that step was so important, there you have it.

This ladder is inaccessible if you don’t empty your inventory before getting to this area.

At this point, grab any items you can find. Whenever you feel like it, go down the ladder to reach the area where the TMP is. As soon as you get there, you will notice the “well” is actually a small cave with two exits. Right in the middle of this cave you will find four barrels and a chest. The barrels have a few submachine gun bullets (for the TMP) and there is also a kitchen knife inside one of them. This knife isn’t as powerful as the knife Leon has at the beginning of the game, but it’s a good substitute nonetheless.

However, inside the big chest in the middle of the cave, you will find (you guessed right) the TMP. Open the chest, grab the weapon, and maybe even examine it in your inventory if you’re curious enough. You will notice this weapon is considerably more powerful than Leon’s default handgun, and it’s also slightly upgraded, so you probably shouldn’t expect the TMP to be so powerful the first time you find it in the full game. In any case, once you have the TMP, there is nothing you should be afraid of anymore.

The TMP can be found inside a chest in a cave below the Village - Resident Evil Demo TMP

Finally, you found it. Let’s hope it will be that easy in the full game too…

Step 6: Kick Some Villagers’ Butts With Your New Weapon!

Go back outside through any of the two ladders inside the cave and continue playing as stealthy or as aggressively as you want. It’s recommended to proceed normally by running inside one of the houses on the left, which is the one that spawns Dr. Salvador (the mad chainsaw man) through a short cinematic. After that, go upstairs and grab the shotgun, a hand grenade, and a few shotgun bullets on the bed. This area gets full of enemies in no time, so escape through the window here and climb down the roofs avoiding them as much as you can.

Go back to the area where you entered the Village (or any other place you think it could be safe to stop and shoot), and start blasting the TMP. You will easily deal with any enemy in 5 shots or so, and they will become stunned pretty quickly, allowing you to perform physical attacks on them to kill them even more easily. As for the chainsaw guy, don’t stop shooting him whenever he starts charging at you. Be prepared when that happens and make sure to have your TMP reloaded. If Salvador gets too close to you with an empty weapon… you’re probably a dead man.

You can also use the kitchen knife, grenade, or shotgun to compensate for the absence of your regular knife and handgun. However, as soon as you start hearing the bell ringing, that means your time to try the game out is over. The villagers will stop attacking you and you will see a short cinematic of them going through a door you will very likely need to unlock later in the game to go find Ashley… once it comes out, that is.

Where to Buy the Full Game

That was everything you needed to know on how to unlock the secret TMP weapon in the Resident Evil 4: Chainsaw Demo. I hope you have tons of fun killing Villagers and giving the mad Dr. Salvador a hard time. The full game comes out on March 24 and it will be available on Steam, PS4 & PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Probably due to exclusivity contracts, it seems that the game won’t be released on Xbox One (at least for now). However, the final trailer of the game teases a lot of content that will show up in the remake, and it seems this entry is very promising for new players and the ones we played the original title. Check out the full trailer below and stay tuned for more guides once the game comes out!
