Resident Evil 4 Remake has been out for a month now and it has already caused an undeniable impact on the gaming community. The game is packed with memorable moments from the original game, impressive combat mechanics, and a few secrets here and there. And speaking about secrets, one of the things you should aim to get if you want to get 100% in this Remake is the collectibles! There are 16 collectibles in the game known as “Clockwork Castellans.”
These little figures resemble the design of the original Ramon Salazar, which is one of the characters that got their appearance completely changed for this new entry. I’ve managed to find them all by my own hand (and I’ve gotta say the last one was a headache), so I’ve made this guide to show you the locations of all of them.
Below you have a small brief of where, how, and even why to collect all 16 Clockwork Castellans, so make sure to pay attention to this guide in case you want to grab them all on your next playthrough of this classic (but now reimagined) Survival Horror masterpiece.
Where and How to Collect the Clockwork Castellans in Resident Evil 4 Remake?
The Clockwork Castellans are essentially the collectibles in Resident Evil 4 Remake. There is a total of 16 of them (one per chapter). They’re usually hidden in dark corners of the main path or even in optional areas. They’re not very hard to spot, considering they make a loud and distinctive mechanic sound.
In order to “grab them”, you must shoot them with your gun (or knife them in case they’re close enough.) Destroying all of them will give you the corresponding trophy or achievement for doing so, along with a new weapon: the primal knife (also known as the infinite knife or the unbreakable knife). This knife will be very helpful in your speedruns or Professional S+, so it is definitely worth your time.
Below you have the locations of each Clockwork Castellan scattered around the Village. Castle, and Island. Keep in mind most of these collectibles are missable, which means you can’t go back to the areas where they are (only very few of them), so make sure to destroy them as soon as you reach the area where they’re located. You don’t need to grab them all in one playthrough, so in case you miss any Clockwork Castellans you can start a new game and grab the ones you’re missing.

The first Clockwork Castellan can be found near the very end of Chapter 1 as soon as you meet your first dynamite enemies. Once you go through the dark tunnel and deal with the villagers in this area, go inside the small shed in the middle. Look above once you do so and you will find the Castellan there. Remember to shoot it in order to collect it!

The second Castellan is probably the easiest one to notice. Near the end of Chapter 2, you will open a blocked door by using the hexagonal emblem. Once you do this, you will deal with a few enemies and pass a few stairs to reach an open area. Inside another small shed to the left of the path, you will find the small collectible, along with a note instructing you to destroy it.

The next Castellan can be found before getting introduced to “Del Lago” (the lake monster). After reaching a large area where you will have to deal with a couple of monster dogs, you will go down a path to reach a merchant. Here, climb down the stairs, go to your right, and stand on the spot shown on the map below. You will find the Castellan slightly hidden on top of a box here.

This highly missable collectible can be found in an optional area of this Chapter. Remember the Lakeside Settlement, the area where you grabbed your first Castellan? You can go back to this area by using the boat (use your map to find it northwest of the lake).
This area is now full of enemies and you will very likely need to deal with them before collecting the Castellan. However, there is a locked door in this area, but thankfully you already have the key to open it. Behind this door, you will find a few resources and a ladder. Climb it to reach a small altar with a dead body on it. Across the altar, you will hear the Castellan doing its thing outside of the playable area. Shoot it to collect it and don’t forget to grab everything you can find here (a few dogs will be waiting for you once you leave this area, so better to be prepared).

This Castellan is also in another optional area, but you will probably find it on your way if you’re going for the “A Savage Mutt” request. Now that Ashley is with you, you can go back to the Major’s Manor to access the secret area of this place (again, use the map in case you need help finding the area).
Once you’re there, get to the second floor and interact with the frame to reveal a hidden lever. This lever will bring down a secret ladder above you, but you will need to ask Ashley to pull it down for you. Once you do so, you can go inside the attic and grab everything you can find here, including the collectible hiding in plain sight on top of a small table.

You can find this Clockwork Castellan a little bit after the beginning of the Chapter. After you deal with a few enemies, you will need to go through a door that will lead you to a bridge with a small shed on the left. To the right, you will see a bonfire with the collectible standing near it. Shoot it to collect it!

This Castellan can be obtained after the Garrador boss fight inside the dungeons. As soon as you regroup with Ashley and use the key to continue, you will climb a ladder. Once you’re inside this new area you will be able to see the collectible standing on top of a shelf.

This is one of the most missable collectibles on the list. In this Chapter, you will have to go through narrow areas to defeat a giant at the end of the path. The first time you meet this giant you will need to drop down to the left to continue. However, you want to drop to the right. There is a secret path here where you will find a few resources, treasures, and the collectible hiding behind a few boxes. Take a look at the location below if you need help finding the exact spot on your map.

This Castellan is inside the courtyard maze that is full of dogs. This is the first area of this Chapter, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding this one. In any case, head to the location shown in the picture below and you will find the collectible hiding behind a few boxes.

This Clockwork Castellan is very well hidden inside the depths, right before the Verdugo boss fight. Right in front of the room where the merchant is you will see a sealed pipeline. Inside this pipeline, you can see the small Castellan poking his head from inside. Shoot him with your handgun to destroy it and the collectible shall be yours.

This collectible can be found right after the first mine cart section with Luis, and right before the second one. Between both mine cart sections, there is a small structure with a few enemies on it. After dealing with them, you’ll be able to see the collectible standing above the exit of this small structure.

This Castellan can be found as soon as you enter the clock tower. Before you start killing everyone and climbing stairs in this tricky section, go to the left part of the lower floor to find the collectible standing on top of a box in a dark corner.

After arriving on the island, you will have to fight lots of enemies to progress. Before entering the building where Ashley is held captive, there is a small optional section with a few enemies and resources to gather. You can find the Castellan on the floor behind a big container here. Check the pictures below for the exact location.

Once you get separated from Ashley once more, you will reach the campsite. This area can be found right before the Krauser boss fight. You can find this Clockwork Castellan before going down the ladder here. You will see it chilling on top of a locker inside some kind of control room, so shoot it to make it count.

After one of the most difficult sections of the game, Saddler will show up with his disgusting novistadors to bring down the chopper. After dealing with the flying insects, you will go inside a room full of bags. Some of these bags contain regenerators, so make sure to deal with them before going for the collectible. In any case, you will find this Castellan inside a small room on the right before entering the specimen storage. Look up to find it hanging around the ceiling.

This is easily the most missable collectible in the entire game. After the final boss fight against Osmund Saddler, you’ll have to hurry up and escape the island in less than two minutes or so depending on the difficulty you’re currently playing. However, once you’re running with Ashley trying to reach the water scooter, you will pass by a few enemies that won’t be able to attack you anymore. Inside this very room there is a lift truck with a hidden collectible near it (check the image below for the exact location in case you need help with it). Shoot it to gather it and congratulations on gathering all Clockwork Castellan Collectibles in Resident Evil 4!
